This tour is only available from June to mid September (and can be subject to change)
Join us for an epic tour to the Westfjords. See the overwhelming steep mountains, the massive reminder of receding glaciers. The Westfjords have a magical lure, to stand against a long, narrow coastal valley knowing it was originally carved out by glaciers millions of years ago and once those glaciers finally receded, seawater covered the floor and created the magnificent fjords with its traditional “U-shaped,” valleys with steep sides and rounded bottoms, giving them a trough-like appearance …. this makes you feel tiny and huge at the same time and gives you endless photo opportunities. Skerries, small, rocky islands created through glaciation, are found around the westfjords making a stunning foreground for us to work on. Huge Fjords like found here in the Westfjords are generally a calm sea, protected by the northern wind and storms. This makes them popular harbors for ships and optimal for residence. In the Westfjords you´ll visit many different places, meet locals, stay at many different hotels and guesthouses and enjoy some of the famous Icelandic cuisine. This part of the island has some rough edges and cold weathers but the people are one of the most warmhearted you´ll ever meet.
Day 1 – Pick Up, travel day Snæfellsnes
Our voyage will begin with an unforgettable experience in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, famously known as a miniature model of Iceland, due to the way it encapsulates all the magnificent landscapes seen on the island, and home to the iconic Snæfellsjökull Glacier, a 1446 m-high active volcano that starred in Jules Vernes’ classic, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and is the subject of much intrigue as alleged possessor of many mysterious attributes.
The glacier is surrounded by the Snæfellsjökull National Park, Iceland’s first national park, with amazing lava formations, gorges and waterfalls, lovely towns and harbours, and an assortment of fascinating attractions.
